White hat SEO or the so called ethical SEO is a win-win situation for both- the visitors and you! It may take a little more time (about some months) but then it is sure to impress your visitors.
Its goal is simple, just improve the search engine rankings without adopting unfair means (and hence save yourself from the penalties of the search engines). It adopts a variety of methods to improve the rankings in long term.
Let us have a look at some such methods-

1) For Content
• A detailed research on the keywords (both short and long tail )
• Inclusion of the keywords (naturally) in headings, titles, alt tags, link anchor text and the other contents of the page.
• Addition of fresh content on a regular basis
• Fine tune the content for further optimization

2) For Coding
• Proper usage of the HTML markup (so that the headings and the other kinds of content is identified correctly by the search engines)
• Use of valid code
• Creation of the site maps to make sure that every page is linked (this will help the search engine bots crawl each and every page easily!)
• Making use of CSS so that the content and the markup are separated from each other.
3) For Linking
• Having quality content so that others want to link to you
• Asking the directories and the other websites (obviously the relevant ones!)to link to your site
• Exchanging links with some relevant sites (some people consider it a apart of gray hat SEO)
• Social media optimization of the pages (hoping to attract some social media links)
By using these techniques we definitely get great results, though it consumes some time. But then your visitor’s trust and the ethical tag are worth the pain!
